Components:

-Jacoby Shaddix (vocalist) -Dave Buckner (drummer) -Will James (bassist) -Jerry Horton (guitar)
Biography:

Originally from Vacaville, in northern California, USA, Papa Roach was established alongside nu-metal bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit with the release of his first work on the seal, Infest. The band formed in 1993 by school friends Jacoby Shaddix aka Coby Dick (born 1976, Vacaville, Calif.), Dave Buckner (born 1976, Vacaville, Calif.; drums) and Will James (bass), with Jerry Horton (born 1975, Vacaville, Calif., guitar) joining soon after.

The quartet was named Shaddix's grandfather, and adopted the cockroach as an enduring symbol of resistance and longevity. Boasting the influence of Faith No More and Rage Against The Machine, Papa Roach became a popular attraction in the musical tour of northern California, with its powerful live shows and lyrics about tortured an attraction for young and loyal fans. The band's debut LP, Potatoes For Christmas, was released on his own label in 1994. In 1996, one of the attendees of the band, Tobin Esperance (born in 1980, Vacaville, Calif.) replaced James. His second album, Old Friends from Young Years, established a notable hip-hop influence, often with Coby Dick rapping the whole verses of songs. The album was a local hit and caused the band to serve as opening act for bands like Suicidal Tendencies and Incubus, who helped introduce the band to a wider audience.

The EPs 5 Tracks Deep and Let 'Em Know was released before the band signed a contract with major label, DreamWorks. Infest, which included re-recordings of several old songs, perfected the ferocious rap-metal hybrid band. Lyrics of Dick's usual concerns include a band of Generation Y, among which include divorce ( "Broken Home"), materialism ( "Between Angels And Insects"), abuse of alcohol and drugs ( "Binge" and "Thrown Away") and suicide ( "Last Resort"). The last of these struck a chord with many young Americans, helping Infest be placed in the Top 5 U.S..
